Latest School Newsletter
The school website has been updated today (13th February) www.fetlar.shetland.sch.uk/news/
Also, this is just a quick reminder to please send a car seat with your child/children tomorrow (February 14th) for our trip to Up Helly Aa in Unst. All pupils will be back home by 3:45pm.
Next Thursday will be a ‘normal’ Unst day but school will be closed on Friday 21st and Monday 24th February for the long weekend, as are all schools in Shetland. In addition, Fetlar Primary will also be closed on Tuesday 25th February. Pupils return to school on Wednesday 26th February at 9am.
Thanks to everyone for their help with our recent Bingo Night. We raised just over £120. Thank you for all your support.
Welcome back to the second part of the school year 2013-14.
School times remain as they were last year, with all days starting at 9am (except Thursday) with break time from 10:45 to 11am and lunch between 12:45 & 1:30pm. The school day ends at 3pm (except on Fridays when school ends at 2:30pm).
We are still travelling out to Unst on Thursdays, so the pick up and drop off times should remain the same. Pupils will need their usual full PE kit and will be with the same teachers as before. We hope to be having swimming lessons in Unst later on this term.
Holiday Dates for the rest of this school year:
School closes for the long weekend after we have gone to Unst on Thursday 20th February and re-opens on Wednesday 26th February.
This term ends on Friday 28th March, with summer term beginning on Tuesday 15th April. School closes for the Summer holidays on Friday 4th July.
In the Summer term here is another ‘Long weekend’ with school closed on Friday 23rd and Monday 26th May.
We are planning to have a fundraising event in February, but this is being organised by P6 & 7 so more details will follow soon.
We are hoping to have a meeting about the school’s section of the Commonwealth Games Tapestry next Tuesday (14th) at 3pm. We badly need help with this so we would ask you to mention it to anyone who might be interested in helping out. We have our designs, but not the skills!!

Welcome to Weeks 2/3 of the term! Its rather busy.
Everyone has settled in well and the new classroom arrangements appear to be working well. All pupils are responding well to the new Golden Time system and seem to be enthusiastically studying the Rainforest.
Foula Primary’s Visit
Foula Primary are arriving in Fetlar on Monday 9th September & leaving on Thursday 12th September. They are staying in the Camping Bod and will join us for school activities during Tuesday & Wednesday of that week. We are all hoping to go down to the Shetland Museum on Thursday (12th) to see the Dinosaur exhibition and take part in some activities, but I am awaiting confirmation on this. We begin the Dinosaur topic on Monday 16th September.
We are planning to cook Spaghetti Bolognaise for Foula on Tuesday night at the school – so we would love some help. Obviously our own pupils are invited to come up for tea as well. Please let us know if you intend to attend as we will need to work out quantities of food required. We are hoping to have Craafit ice cream for afters.
We have been invited over to Unst to see some Ghanaian drumming during Tuesday 10th September so we will be travelling out to Unst on a Tuesday that week.
A detailed letter/permission slip will follow.
All pupils in P5, P6 or P7 have tables to learn. Please encourage them as best you can.
We need to hold a meeting of the Parent Forum next Tuesday after school to discuss the Rights Respecting School Award. Miss Reyner will be available.
School will be open on September 4th as normal.
We would like to invite volunteers to help with making costumes or props for the Christmas play. I would like us to meet on Tuesday 24th September at a time to be arranged. Please contact the school so we can set a convenient time. Please also tell other members of the community, especially as the puppet making was such fun last year!! Please note the change of date.
